Environment policy document
Introduction
Raja Narendralal Khan Women’s College is committed to fostering a sustainable and environmentally responsible campus. This policy outlines our dedication to environmental stewardship, aiming to minimize our ecological footprint and promote sustainability across all aspects of campus life. The policy was established with input from the Teacher’s Council and Governing Body and will be reviewed and monitored regularly to ensure its effectiveness.
Policy Statements
- Plastic Reduction
- The college will enforce a “Zero Tolerance to Plastic” policy. Signboards indicating “No Plastic” will be prominently displayed around the campus to discourage plastic use.
- Sustainable Gardening
- Synthetic chemical fertilizers will not be used in garden and vegetable cultivation. Organic and eco-friendly alternatives will be employed to nurture the campus greenery.
- Water Conservation
- Water conservation practices will be strictly observed. Immediate action will be taken to prevent water misuse and leakage.
- Tree Plantation
- Annual tree plantation programs will be conducted to enhance campus greenness. Saplings will be sourced from the Forest Department and nurtured by designated departments.
- Campus Cleanliness
- All staff and students are required to use “USE ME” to maintain campus cleanliness.
- Waste Management
- Bio-medical and e-waste will be managed through certified agencies to ensure proper disposal.
- Garbage and used scrap paper will not be burned on campus but will be managed by municipal waste carriers.
- Kitchen waste and vegetable scraps will be composted and used as fertilizer.
- Old answer scripts and papers will be sold to paper mills for recycling.
- Vehicle Emissions
- The college will observe “No Fuel Run Vehicle Day” every Monday to reduce pollution and promote a healthier environment.
- Energy Efficiency
- All air conditioning and electrical appliances must meet a 5-star energy efficiency rating to promote energy sustainability.
- Solar energy will be increasingly utilized, including the installation of a high-capacity solar tree in the campus center and rooftop solar panels on girls’ hostels.
- LED lights, sensor-based lights, and solar heaters will be used to conserve energy.
- Building Materials
- Fly-ash bricks will be used in construction to reduce environmental impact.
- Eco-Friendly Practices
- Eco-ponds will be created to support and maintain local ecosystems.
- Green generators and chimneys will be used to control and regulate smoke emissions.
- Bio-stoves will be utilized in kitchens to reduce air pollution.
- Sanitary Hygiene
- Girls will be instructed to use the napkin-vending machine and Automatic Sanitary Napkin Incinerator for sanitary waste disposal.
- Rainwater Harvesting
- A proper rainwater harvesting system will be maintained to capture and utilize rainwater efficiently.
- Laboratory Waste
- Laboratory chemicals will be properly diluted and disposed of according to established guidelines to ensure safety and environmental protection.
Implementation and Monitoring
A dedicated monitoring committee will oversee the implementation of this policy. This committee will report regularly to the college authorities on compliance and effectiveness. The policy will be reviewed and updated as necessary to address new challenges and opportunities for improvement.
