About the Department

The Department of Mathematics started its journey in the year 1960 offering only General degree course catering to higher mathematics affiliated to Calcutta University to the girl students. Within a decade, the Department of Mathematics was uplifted from general course to Honours degree course in the year 1967. Since then the Department hold it in high esteem status with our loyalty and reverence in imparting quality education to our beloved students in the arena of higher mathematics. Now, our Department affiliated to Vidyasagar University crossed the Golden jubilee in the year 2017 with glorious achievements by setting up Modern equipped computer laboratories, Mathematics Gallery with different models, separate Research Scholar room, ICT enabled class rooms, Metrological Laboratory etc. In the year 2016, a feather has been added in the coronate of this Department by introducing Post Graduate Course.

At present, the Department has five(05) Full-time Faculty Members, four (04) SACT-I &II (State Aided College Teacher category-I and II). The department has a strong research wing that produces quality research papers in national and international journals of repute with high impact factor in different fields like Graph Theory, Bio-Mathematics, Inventory Management, Soft Computing, Fuzzy Mathematics, Dynamical System etc. In the last three years, the Department have completed three UGC sponsored Minor Research Projects and one Major research project sponsored by DST, Govt of West Bengal is going on. One project fellow is working under this DST project. Some of our faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. and registered himself/herself in the Research Centre, Raja NarendraLal Khan Women’sCollege (Autonomous). The department has produced FOUR (04) Ph.D. Scholars and ten (10) Ph.D.  Scholars are currently working under the guidance of our Faculty Members. Some renowned visiting Faculty Members from Vidyasagar University taught our students at Post Graduate course.  Our endeavour is to keep high quality teaching and research and continuously producing quality students.
