Q: How to be a member of the Central Library?

A: Students need not to apply for the membership of the Library. As new students get admitted to the College they become members of the Central Library. They only have to collect their Library Membership Card on the scheduled date.

Q: Is it mandatory to have the Library Card?

A: Yes, it is mandatory to get entry into the Library. The Library Membership Card is an authentic Identity of students.

Q: How to find a particular book or a journal in the Library?

A: For new books (Accession No. 20,000 and onwards), our Library follows Open Access System, in which the users are allowed to go to the book stacks directly and choose their desired books. To search the books with Accession Number below 20,000 or to browse the entire database by title, author, subject, keyword, etc., the users can go through the Web OPAC. Library also preserves the old card catalogues for those students who are not so familiar with ICT. If necessary, they can request Library personnel for help.

Q: How to issue books from the Library?

A: Firstly, you need to select books from the Open Access Book Stacks. Then, fill in requisition slips for each book. Submit the books along with the slips at circulation counter. The Library personnel will issue the books for you. Don’t forget to bring your card.

Q: How long a student can keep an issued book with her?

A: For 15 days only.

Q: How to reissue a book and for how many times a member can reissue the same book?

A: Only once you can reissue a particular book. To reissue, fill in a requisition slip and hand over the book with slip to the Library personnel.

Q: Which books are not issued to the members?

A: The books kept in the Reading Room are generally not for issue. Besides those, the reference books (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, yearbooks), rare books, books of special collection are not issued to the members. In short, the books marked with RR, TR, Ref, or Gen in red at the spine labels are not issuable.

Q: Are printed journals issued to the members?

A: No, printed journals are not issued to the members. These are to be read only inside the Reading Room.

Q: How can I recommend a book or journal for purchase in the Library?

A: After logging in at the Library Web OPAC the members can submit their purchase suggestions for books and journals.

Q: Can I bring my personal books or other reading materials to the Library?

A: No, members are not allowed to bring personal books and other reading materials inside the Library.

Q: What is the fine I have to pay, if I would not return book within the date?

A: Students have to pay one rupee for each book each day onwards beyond the date of return stamped on the date slip of the book.

Q: Can I get library materials Photocopied?

A: Yes, students may avail reprography service for research purposes. Necessary permissions are to be taken from the authority.

Q: Can I get printout of some pages of E-books or E-journals from the Library?

A: Yes, Library provides the printout on demand of E-documents in a discounted rate to the students against proper application.

Q: What should I do if the book I borrowed got lost or damaged?

A: Students may replace with a new book, or pay the current price of the lost or damaged book.

Q: What should I do if the Library Card is lost or damaged?

A: The loss of card must forthwith be brought to the notice of the Library Clerk at the Circulation Counter. Student has to pay Rs. 20.00 for a duplicate Card.
